A Farmall Rebuild

The new sleeve and piston kit ordered from this site for my A arrived today. The sleeves do fit and they install much easier than the old ones came out. But the new seal ring is a fat O ring. The old seal was square edged with a near square cross section. My old pistons are cast iron, flat top, and have 4 rings. The new ones are aluminum, flat top, and have 3 rings. The new ones have a V shaped notch on top but does not have any labeling that I can find. The old pistons do not have a notch. I assume the notch goes toward the front of the engine. Is this correct? Is there another purpose for the notch? If/when I do this again is there a source for new cast iron pistons instead of aluminum? Thanks.
