I had the same experience with my H. Even though that sheet metal plate looks simple from the outside, the inside had baffles that direct the coolant towards the cylinders...they may have rusted off on yours. Do get the correct replacement part, and don"t "make do" with a piece of flat plate. After removing the baffle plate, I stuck the wand from the pressure washer in the block and really cleaned out 60 years of accumulated crud. It makes a difference! The baffle plate was available from FNH and aftermarket "OEM" type suppliers. Hint: guess which was cheaper...by a lot! Paul in MN
