This is how I do all of the ones I have done, and thats more then 10 of them in the last year or 2. I blow out the cylinders if there any thing in them. Fill with tranny fluid and walk away for a few days. Then I set a battery on them and hook it up. Then I hit the starter button with short fast taps and watch the fan/crankshft pulley. If it moves any at all I keep doing it. If it doesn't move I refill the cylinders and let it sit longer. Now since it sounds like you have the head off another thing you can do that works is put a tablespoon of gas in the tranny fluid and lite it up. That heats the block but not the pistons. Then when the fire goes out try the starter thing. Doing that has worked on all but one engine I have done it to
