There maybe a metric snapring that is thinner than the fat new style, and thicker than the original that will work. I would go that route, and leave a little strength on the end. Put a gob of clay on the end and reassemble it temporarily. Measure the amount of squish on the clay to see if it would bind up. If there is some clearance to internal components, I would probably braze up the end of the shaft about an eigth and then widen the groove. If it would not fit, I would remove built up material till it did. Good luck, JimN
