Your Super M if tuned up properly, properly balasted and the plow properly set, will pull 3x16 in any soil. Bear in mind all those things must be right. An out of adjustment plow can drag 15 hp off your tractor, probably 30% of the traction. The big item tractor wise in pulling any trailer plow is ballast. For what your proposing, maximum Calcium Chloride plus two sets of wheel weight would be wise. I plowed for a number of years with Farmall 300, pulling an IH No. 60, 3x16 trailer plow. I then went to a 560D with No. 60, 4x16 plow and still later to a 656D with 510 semi-mount, 5x16, and I always plowed 7 to 8 inches deep. Now, I will grant you, I was in sandy loam. Just the other day I was out with my Farmall 140, meanest of heavy clay, pulling a 2x12 mounted plow 6 to 7 inches deep. My 300 and 560 did have chloride plus one set of wheel weights pulling those trailer plows. My 656 pulled that 5x16 semi-mount without any weight added, liquid or solid. I do use wheel weights on my 140. My friend, plow adjustment has made more good tractors look bad than any other factor. By the way, Bob M needs an extra set of wheel weights to compensate for low operator weight. Notice how he's sitting right on the back edge of seat trying to gain as much as he can from his 165# carcass.
