When you have the timing marks on the cam and crankshaft gears mated to the correct gears you can install your mag or distributor with No4 piston at TDC. You will need to turn the rotor to the No4 position in your distribuor or mag.
Then install it on your engine. When you bring
No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke the rotor will point to the No1 plug tower. That's why they have No1 & No4 stamped into the flywheel.
You can either use No4 sparkplug or No1 plug for
setting your timing. You still have your plug wires in the same order on the cap. Hal
