Input shaft bearing cage on late M and SM is different than most M. On SM with live hydraulic a different front countershaft bearing retainer was used. Few different pinion shaft pilot bearings and retainer type used. But only thing you actualy have to change unless you have a real early M to install SM gears into, is SM counter shaft with gears,reverse idler gear and slider gears, first & reverse, second & third , fourth & fifth will slide on your main shaft.
