It's as much work as you want to make it. The engine is just a small fraction of the time I spend on a restoration. Once the tractor is split and cleaned the rebuild is pretty simple. The crank pulley may come off hard and the wet sleeves can be a bugger to pull but beyond that it's not bad. But I consider an engine rebuild to include all of the sub systems too, ie. carb, starter, water pump, governor, generator, air cleaner, etc. and restore them all. There are also much more time consuming aspects of it like the paint removal and body work, painting all of the piece parts etc. Again, do your own thing. Some guys are happy with fresh paint and new decals and little else. Nothing wrong with that either. Take a look at the '48 Super A I did a few years ago.
