It takes a little while, even with the clutch in perfect shape, for the tranny gears to coast to a stop, to allow for shifting without "grinding". It MAY get a little better with use, as the flywheel and pressure plate get polished up again. What oil do you have in the tranny... there is a noticeable difference in how quickly things coast the a stop with 140-weight oil, vs. 90-weight oil! And, NO, you can't run lights and accessories off of the magneto. You need a generator to operate those.

Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
