Tach disassembly

Any of you folks ever took a 66 series tachometer apart without distroying the chrome ring and the lense? I bought one that looks good, but is reported not to work. I"m gonna try it myself before I dismantle it. I need to replace the lense and the chrome ring on mine. I bought this one for parts.

If it does check out to be bad, I thought I"d cut the tub just behind the chrome ring.

Any suggestions?
