You'll loose a little fluid, maybe a half pint or less, as gearbox only holds a little over a quart. Since yours only has one plate you need to lay a straight edge across it to check for flatness. The single plates have a tendency to bend in the middle and my guess it that's the main problem. After straightening plate(if needed), clean the shims & all sealing surfaces with brake or carb cleaner. I use something called "Loctite 510 Flange Sealant" on the shims & sealing surfaces. It will not affect the adjustment. Bolt it back together and see if it leaks. If the clearance between rack and pad needs adjustment, send me an email and I'll try to help.
