Under the hood of a 340 I would use a mitsubishi alternator from a mid 80s nissan PU. they are quite small, and will allow adjustment under the hood. Simple mounts can be made using the original bracket and some spacers and longer bolts. Be sure the pulleys are lined up nicely. Wiring for the system is in the archives under mitsubishi alternators.
