Sorry, I'm making assumptions. On the side opposite the carb, there is a (usually) black or grey cap with five wires comming out of it. That whole thing, including the red part, is the distributor (or magneto if so equipped) If it is a distributor, the center fat wire comming out of the cap goes to a round cylinder shaped object mounted (usually) above the disributor. It will be about 2" in diameter and 4 to 6 inche long. It will have three wires connected. The fat one described above, and two smaller wires. One will go to the distributor below and attach to the side, the other will go to a resistor Small device with two terminals about the size of a bic lighter, from there, it goes to the ignition switch (push pull button on the elect. box at the operators platform. The proper connection for the coil(if it has an alternator from a car in it) is for the positive "+" side to connect to the resistor, and the negative side to be connected to the distributor. If it is a Magneto ign, there will be no coil on top, it will be built into the unit and appear as a hump on the top. If it has no ballast resistor, and it is 12v, it needs one in most cases. a resistor from a 57 chevrolet will work well and is cheap. There are many posts on ballast resistore in the archives. The diagrams from Bob M are also indispensible. Look them up and enjoy. Jimn

The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel.
