I know what you mean. I had a broken #1 piston, tried replacing just it and the rod, and 4 new rod bearings, put it all back together and still no compression on #1, figure the sleeve's oval or something. Took everyone's advice here and now have the head, crank, block, cam all at the shop getting "Newized". Gonna be a month or two before I can afford to get an overhaul kit, but hope to have it together by Christmas, and tractor all done by spring. A lot more to it than I planned on, but lovin it. The Elders here will tell you to get all the manuals and search previous posts here for just about any information you need. Took me 20 seconds to get those links for you in first reply. I've learned a lot from reading them, more than you hope to learn when you first start searching a topic, they take you into other areas you might not think of. Farming Never Left My Blood - by Stan Gordon. I was born in 1947 youngest of ten of a working farm. Our farm was located in Saskatchewan near Saskatoon. We had a mixed farm consisting of grain and dairy all done with old machinery and by hand. My dad had a tractor, a Farmall A which was used mostly to run the thrashing machine, a seed drill and for plowing. I remember locals used to help each other and threshing was done from daylight to after dark, one farm to another until all farms were done.
