Iowa Pod Count ???????????

I tried this question on the Tractor Talk board and didn't get a good answer so I'll try here. Was reading on the Farms.Com soy report that the "Iowa Pod Count" this year was 1175 vs 1275 last year. What the heck is the Iowa Pod count and how do they arrive at their numbers?????
