I don't know what you are trying to do here but you seem to need a two-shifter-hole lid and opposite side shifting forks. The forks can be separated from the flatbar rails, rotated, and rewelded. I have '39 M, SMTA, and 560 lids loose in my barn. They are all the same length and appear to have the same bolt holes. All lids from the 400 through 560 are cast similar to the old reversable M lids. This means they have two shifter holes and the necessary bosses to attach the rail retainers and detent balls w/springs. This also means you will have to drill and tap a 400-560 lid to the attach the modified shifting rails on the other side. That will be seven threads and a little bit of end milling on the bosses. I have a Bridgeport and welder that can do the work. Send me an email if you want to go this route. I won't send you a quote until I am sure my 560 lid will fit your tractor. Bear in mind that an original reversible lid found local to you will be alot cheaper than the core, custom work and shipping. I am in MA.

When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and
