Mike unless it burns a lot of oil and smokes bad I wouldn't even think about opening it up. You have to figure it will cost at least $1500 to rebuild the engine and if it has good compression and runs well which it could well do if you rebuild the carb why waste the $$ doing a rebuild. I believe in 2 schools when it comes to these old tractors KISS and if it isn't broke don't fix it or you may find you need way more then you would have if you left it alone. Start with the simple things like a carb rebuild and a tune up and then if it doesn't have the power it should and or smokes bad then maybe a rebuild on the engine
