on 1 after clearing away the rusted material the holes were only the size of a dime. I welded these up starting where the surrounding material was full thickness and worked my way in. then just ground and filled until I was happy with the finish. (1/16 rod at 40 amps)

On the 2nd, the holes were (are) just too big. In my search for a good (or bad, to harvest a patch) used rim, I eventually lucked out and found an excellent rim 1 mile from the house. It took a while to find, but they are out there.
