voltage regulator problem

I have a 12 volt, negative ground genertor system on my 300U. The other day I noticed it wasn't charging. I reached down and tapped on the voltage regulator and it started working fine. I've had to do that the last few times I started the tractor. Is there something in there I need to clean or lubricate?
