Leaking Belt Pully Gearbox Gasket on H

I have the following problem on my �41 H and its driving me
crazy.

When I bought my H it was missing the belt pulley gearbox and
pulley. Covering the gearbox opening was a thin homemade flat
metal plate and a gasket. There was some minor grime build up
on the plate every once and a awhile, and I chalked it up to the
non-factory standard part and the fact that the bolt holes were
2X the size they should have been (they were flame cut holes,
not drilled)

I finally got my hands on a belt pulley gearbox, cut a new
gasket, and installed it using silicone gasket sealer as an added
safety. Immediately I began to see leakage out of the back of the
gearbox at the gasket (By leakage I mean about 2 tablespoons of
tranny oil every time I shut down). I figured I had jarred the
gasket out of position sliding it into place under the gas tank.

After two more tries with new gaskets and silicone, oil was still
leaking. So instead of trying to replace the belt pulley as I had, I
did two things. 1) I checked the flatness of both the tranny case
where the belt pulley gearbox sits, and also the belt pulley
flange and 2) instead of trying to slide the gearbox into place
under the gas tank, I removed everything in the area to allow me
to install the gearbox unobstructed from above.

The flange on the gearbox was flat. On the tranny cover, at the
area it was leaking, it was dished inward .015 inches, certainly
not enough to cause a problem, but�.

When I reinstalled the gearbox a 4th time, I used a good bit of
silicone on the back side and didn�t initially torque down the
bolts (I let the weight of the gearbox form the gasket). The first
time out � no problems. The second run a few days later and the
gearbox is leaking again!

As far as I can tell the gearbox is splash lubed, so there
shouldn�t be any pressure that would force the oil out the back
of the flange.

So does anybody have an idea about what is going on?
