H waterpump leaking

My H is leaking coolant from the waterpump out the fan shaft. Question 1- In my manual it says something about if the waterpump is leaking adjust the packing screw or add new packing. What exactly is this and could it be my problem? Can I do this without removing the water pump? Question 2- If I have to remove the pump it appears that I have to remove the radiator to get it off. What is the best way to remove the radiator since the steering shaft goes through it? I appreciate your guys help b/c I"ve never had it apart before. Thanks Greg
