my 1942 m has the starter button at the base of the steering post below the light switch box, it is a straight rod with a mushroomed head. my 48 and 51 m both have the starter in the same location but it is a bent rod. the 42 is kind of a pain because you have to twist yer toe a little to push the rod in.
