That way will bring trouble. If you only have a 12 volt battery to jump with, disconnect the starter wire from the tractor. turn on the ignition using the 6 volts from the battery. Jump the 12 volt to the starter, polarity does not matter. The starter will spin like mad, and if any power is in the 6 volt battery, it will provide ignition. If you cannot disconnect the starter from the tractor battery without disconnecting everything, then disconnect the 6 volt battery entirely, and subsitute the 12 volt, positive ground. The generator will not charge, because it senses over voltage. The coil and points will not be harmed for a short time. Best thing is to take out the 6 volt and put it on the battery charger.
