If it has the 11 inch clutch, you can replace the disk and pressure plate by taking out the hydraulic belly pump, and removing things through that opening. Very late model M's and Super M's have a 12 inch clutch. You can replace the disk on these without splitting, but if you want to replace the pressure plate you have to split the tractor. I am not sure at which serial number IH went from 11 inch to 12 inch clutch on the M, but I do know that it was very late in the model run.
