I restored a 51 M last winter and have changed oil several times to get the old crap out (and there was plenty) aND USED THE RECOMMENDED STRAIGHT 30 WEIGHT recommended jy my manuals. Everything started to leak after the second oil change and since have gone to 40 weight. still leaks but less. I need to split the beast and install rear seals.
