The choice of oils is controversial. I believe that an engine that is not running hot, and has no issues with coking in valve stems can be better protected with multi wt oils. 10-40 or 15-40 brand name oils. I also believe in synthetic oils (ames oil, mobile 1 etc. In an M used in a way that it was intended, I would use 10-40, or 15-40 oil. If it was loose, and had marginal oil pressure when hot, I would use a 20-50 oil, or a straight wt40 oil. In tractors that coke valves, (some IH gas 6 cylinder units, I would use straight wt 30). By the way, and without flame in any way, the reaction to your name is in response to the high visibility and authority from respect that Nebraska Cowman has earned through his dedication to all forum participants, his knowledge, and his ethical stance. (read the article attached in the post below on Nebraska Cowmanand below), his consistant positive attitude, and the fact that we associate the Cowman name with him. If I were you, I would choose a different screen name, and let it be known in a post to that effect. The participants of this forum would be appreciative. JimN
