90% of the time it is cheper to buy the show tractor than build it. Of course then it won"t be something you did. I like to to do mine my way but if that isn't important buy one already show or near show ready. There are several ways to restore a tractor there is the Dupont restoration which just consist of a cheep paint job then there is the most common restoration which includes fixing all the problems with the tractor and giving it a nice paint job, then there is the complete restoration which is rebuilding everything need it or not not many of these done many claimed but not many done. In my openion of all these choices the cheepest by far is a real nice unit ready to drive.
