986 Hydraulics stops working

Brother in Law has a 986. When he tries to lift rear gate on his baler, it comes up part ways up and then stops. At this point his auxillary and 3 point both quits. When he kills and restart tractor, he can get his hydraulics to work one time. Any ideas what might be the problem?
