Often times they don't need to be rethreaded. The threads fill up with soot and rust and seem to disappear. If the manifold is off the tractor, take it to a machine shop and get the outlet sandblasted/glass-beaded. They will probably chase the threads for no additional cost. In any event, you should take the manifold off and replace the studs, washers, gaskets, and brass nuts.

If you do it yourself, you will degrade the 2" pipe tap (not cheap) as it is cutting through the hard oxides. You could even wind up with a cross-thread. I wouldn't let you borrow my tap. Sorry.
