After you start the engine you need to depress the clutch pedal and wait several seconds, then try putting it in gear. You have to wait for the trans. gears to stop spinning before you can shift without grinding. When you start the engine with the trans. in gear, you have the clutch pedal down, and the trans. gears never start to spin.
