Well what I use is a stright weight oil like 40W or 50W in the summer depending on the tractor. I don't like or believe in the multi stuff since it never really gots as thick as 40W if its say a 20W-40 its still thinner then a 40W. As far as dieing at idle that could be an adjustment on the carb or carb problems. If the idle is set to low it will die on you
