Not necessary to split the tractor. Drop the lift All out and then take the clutch shaft coupling loose. You do not have to remove the clutch shaft, athough it's a little tricky to get it all just right to come out. After clutch coupling is loose, then take out the bolts that hold the front transmission bearing holder and the front bearing retainer bolts. When you get things just right, the bearing holder and with the bearings, seals and the transmission input gear will come out. This has to be done from under the tractor and of course would be easier if you split in front of the transmission, but most folks don't have all the supports needed to hold things up to do that and to get it all aligned to put back.
