I've noticed on mine that the gasket has been dug out so many times that there is a permanent "hole" deeper than the normal groove, right in the front of the filter base. That is exactly where someone (including myself) has used a pick to start the digging process maybe 200 times. It wanted to leak there (I assume it was where the leak started), so I filled the hole with gasket compound to stop it.
