Ran into an H on steel a few years back that a fellow was using for dragging logs out of the woods, and it had a long bolt or pin that wouldn't allow the shift rail to slide forward to engage 5th gear. I've been told that most of the H's that came out on steel wheels had that pin, and if you replace it with a shorter bolt, you'll have 5th gear. Now, if you've ALWAYS had 5th gear until now, this information obviously doesn't apply.
