2 things come to mind on that. One is they could get the plugs to stop letting a little compression by pass out the ring which is a sort of a seal for the plug. Or they wanted to pull the hotter plug back and of the picton just a little to keep from burning a hole in it. You never know for sure unless you can talk to who ever did that and then sometimes they don't even know why they did it.
