Hi Terry, that silver colored mud is most likely chewed up parking brake band and will clog the filter again. Use only Hytran or equivilant hydraulic oil. The weak lifting can be:
1) clogged filter or lo hydraulic fluid level
2) stuck or bad pressure relief valve
3) MCV valve not working propperly
4) weak pump

Does power steering work OK?
Number 1) you can change filter and fluid a couple of times. The other causes require special tools to test pressure and flow rating of pump.
