Red, did you purchase the new Pertronix Ignition to match your tractor ground??? i.e. Positive or Negative??? They are very much polarity sensitive so if youre tractors say at Pos ground the Pertronix better be for Pos ground or you may have damaged it !!!!!!!!!! When the ignition switch is turned ON there should be a constant 12 volts (unless you used a 6 volt coil with an external ballast resistor) on the coils high input (NOT to distributor) terminal and over on its low (to distributor) terminal the voltage should usually be zero (when elec switch is closed and coil conducts current) but flash to near battery voltage momentarily when the elec switch opens and the coil fires. If you place a test lamp on the coils low side and crank the engine over it should flash on n off if the elec switch works. If it dont flash on n off (lamp on coils low side) the elec switch isnt working so the coil never fires. Inside the distributor theres a magnet which fits down over the distributor cam and the magnetic pickup on the base to replace the points and each time a magnet passes by the pickup the elec switch opens momentarily (coils stops conducting current) and the coil fires. With the coil wire removed from the distributor cap (coil end left intact in coil) and placed 1/8 inch from tractor iron and the engine cranked with ignition on, it should spark each time a magnet passes by the pickup coil moumted in the base of the distributor. INSURE THE ELEC SWITCH IS COMPATIBLE WITH WHAT GROUND THE TRACTOR IS and check the voltage to the coils high input, then place a test lamp on the coils low side output n crank her over n see if the lamp flashes on n off, if not the coils not gonna fire. If the elec switch isnt the correct polarity you may be SOL and I doubt if they warranty it if you hooked it up to the incorrect polarity. I guess the elec switch is wired correct otherwise???????? They have one wire (red??) to the coils high side and another (black??) to its low side and they need the magnet over the cam lobe and the pickup mounted correct in the base for alignment n closeness to the magnet to work you know......... PS is the coil a full 12 volt rated??? If its a 6 volt coil and you dont use any external ballast resistor it will get hotttttttttttttt. John T

Ford Part Number Trivia - by Forum Participants. "Replaced by" means the part was superseded. All of my part books date back to 1964 and New Holland have changed some part numbers. They usually put the old Ford part number on the package. I was suppressed when I looked up the part number of the auxiliary drive shaft because for some reason the part number went through a radical change and it lost its "Basic Part Number". Ford part numbers follow the following rules. Most part numbers are in three parts. The middle part is called the
