One other thing ,are you still running the small stock 966 clutch and flywheel???? If ya are then this may be your problem as it may be main clutch slipage and you can change that and go with a 1066 -1466 hd clutch with a 6 pad set up or even a 8 pad . (66's had a bunch of clutch problems as that 12 inch was not enough clutch and i have done a few changes over the years to the 14 inch .
