300 battery short

I was raking hay yesterday when a wrench in the tool box under the fuel tank next to the starter bounced over and shorted on the lead from the battery.

Tractor died and I was on a hill so I unhooked the rake and tried to coast down the hill to start it.

No fire what so ever but turned over good.

Could it have fried the alt. also?

Or was the battery so dead and not enough speed to get the alt. going?

Yes I have it switched to a 6 volt alt.

Just wondering before I try to jump it today.
