Is this a gas or gas tractor? We had same problems with a gas 656 hydro. We only used it for hay. Had a burnt valve, 3 years later(less than 1000 hrs) it blew a head gasket. Had the head rebuilt and next summer it did just what you said. Started missing bad, checked it out and found part of the valve gone. Sold it like that. I have heard reasons from nolead in the fuel, too much valve lash, and on and on. We solved the problem by buying a diesel.
