Per Guy Fay's IH Tractor Data Book he lists the horsepower for a Super M as 42 (drawbar) and 47.5 (PTO and Pulley). These values are for a gasoline model and for a distillate model the numbers are somewhat less. My brother-in-law pulls a 8 foot Bush Hog brand rotary cutter behind his straight M which isn't an exceptionally strong tractor. I think you are good to go with your 7 footer. Hope this helps, Hal.
