As far as horsepower requirements, our 544 handled it very well at 4.5 mph (3rd gear), the M would pull it in 2nd gear (hydraulics were too weak to lift with fertilizer). Dad pulled it one year with the 1086 and went 6 mph and had way more skips and doubles.

Brother-in-law has an 800 8-row... what I remember from the brief time I was around it is that the fan was hydraulic driven from a PTO pump and the drive system for the drum seemed better/more accurate. Kinda foggy beyond that...
