H purchase

I'm getting ready to buy a 1944 H that belongs to a fellow who does most of my auto mechanic work. He has restored a number of tractors and crawlers and has an excellent reputation as a mechanic and business man and I trust his judgement. He is getting out of tractors and now is restoring old race cars. He has another H which he uses and another parts H. This H has not been restored. It is rust color all over. He said he drove it to where it sits, it smoked but no engine noise, engine seals leaked. He said he was going to put new rings in and put it back together. Rear tires are 75-80%, front need replacing. I'm a Ford and Massey guy and don't know much about the Farmalls (there are some in the family). What do you think about $300 and he delivers it. What should I look for? Any advice greatly appreciated. Don
