Crank Bracket - Bolts

Purchased a new Crank Bracket for my 1948 Super A and took the old one off and put the new one on with the same hex head bolts. The bolt heads with washer appear to stick up pretty high and so I was wondering if maybe they had been replaced and the original ones might have been a round head bolt with a screw driver slot. Sure would fit nicer than the hex heads. Any answers?
