Does is start hard when it's cold, when it's warm/hot, or both? Mine had a problem where it'd start good cold, but was a miserable SOB to start when hot, and finally got to where it wouldn't start at all. Turned out the float in the carb was leaking and finally got waterlogged to the point that it would flood as soon as it started. These things will flood if you look at 'em cross-eyed. I'd check the float condition and height very carefully. Second guess is to check the advance mechanism as the other feller mentioned.
