Just adding that if you happen to take the cover off the transmission, pull the rails down and check out the springs and balls. If they break, they don�t put enough tension on the balls and this makes it easier for a rail to keep moving right through neutral or move with the one adjacent to it (like when you shifted to 3rd the 5th rail moved along with it as I suspect) causing your problem. Common problem on the letter serried up to the 60 series.
