Just adding that if you happen to take the cover off the transmission, pull the rails down and check out the springs and balls. If they break, they don’t put enough tension on the balls and this makes it easier for a rail to keep moving right through neutral or move with the one adjacent to it (like when you shifted to 3rd the 5th rail moved along with it as I suspect) causing your problem. Common problem on the letter serried up to the 60 series.
