That is a common problem on H's & M's. Take the pin out holding the stick shifter in place. Using a flahslight and a long screwdriver, look into the trany and realign the rails to neutral.
The tip of the shiter is probably worn off some.
It is slipping out of the rail slot letting the rail stay in the gear it was in. You need to replace the shifter or build up the end a little.
