Steve - The conductor inside cheap, automotive type RFI supression ignition wires consist of fiberglass or similar "painted" with high resistance latex then covered with insulation. When used with HEI (high energy ignition) electronic systems the conductor in these wires can quickly burn out due to the high currents/voltage present in the ignition pulses. What to use then?? For a tractor without onboard electronics (engine control computer, radio, etc) solid copper core conductor wires are the way to go. (When the engine is running however these wires will ruin AM radio reception for anyone within several hundred feet...) Otherwise low resistance spiral conductor wires (like Magnecor, etc) are generally the way to go. They can withstand HEI electronic ignition pulses while also providing good control over RFI.
