If you are talking about it leaking around the bowl, then, yes if
you tighten it too much the bail will deform the die cast base.
Every Farmall/IH that I"ve gotten has leaked because of that. You
can check it by just putting the sediment bowl against the die
cast base without a gasket and see if it "rocks" a bit. I made a
little jig that I use to gently press it flat again in a vise. Also the
cork gaskets that are impregnated with rubber seem to seal
better as the rubber swells a bit from the gasoline.
