Are you sure its getting enough gas? Your carburetor may need cleaning and the fuel line, tank and sediment bowl. If these are ok, I would do a tuneup with new plugs, points and condenser.
You may want to recheck the valve lash too. If they call for.014"H set them at .017"C. Hal
